Essential Oil Sleep Roller Blend Recipes

Today I’m going to share with you some of my favorite essential oil roller bottle recipes for sleep. They not only help me fall asleep, but I sleep better throughout the night and also wake up feeling refreshed!

Not sure if there is any science behind this, but I find that switching up between several oils helps even more. So on that note, I’d like to share a couple of my go-to essential oil sleep roller blend recipes that I use regularly.

You can use these roll-ons on your forehead and the back of your neck and shoulders to help you relax and get settled into a peaceful sleep every night. I sometimes also roll them over my nose, my chest and on my feet! Yes, rubbing these oils on your feet is very relaxing. A good foot massage is just one of the things to do to sleep better.

Another way to use these rollers is to roll some in the palm of your hands and then breathe it in by cupping your hands to your nose.

These roller recipes can work wonders by themselves, but for an even greater effect you can also diffuse these oils or use them in the bath or in a foot soak before you hit the pillow. Here is a Epsom Salt Bath Soak with Essential Oils for a Relaxing Bath.

Essential Oils for Sleep

Angelica. Angelica oil is not only calming, but it can also help to alleviate aches and pains as well as relieve symptoms of the common cold.

Bergamot. In addition to helping you relax, bergamot oil also helps with cough and cold symptoms, making this ideal for the winter nights. It has a mild citrus scent.

Cedarwood. Cedarwood has a pleasant woodsy and relaxing aroma that mixes well with clary sage, lavender and many other floral scents.

Clary Sage. Clary sage can help to relieve headaches and muscle aches. It also helps to calm the nerves. Another bonus is that it can help to relieve symptoms of the cold, which makes this ideal for the flu season.

Copaiba. Copaiba essential oil is high in beta caryophyllene, which helps to calm the body.

Frankincense. Helps to promote a sense of calm and relaxation. It blends well with many other oils, making it a great addition to your blend.

German Chamomile. A little bit of this oil goes a long way! It’s calming and helps to reduce muscle aches and headaches, which might often keep you up at night.

Goldenrod. This oil has a pleasant smell that you can wear as a perfume. It is calming and is also known as an aphrodisiac.

Lavender. Lavender is probably one of the most popular essential oils for better sleep. That is probably because it’s reasonably priced and it is effective!

Patchouli. This earthy scent has a calming effect on the nerves to help you relax at the end of the day.

Vetiver. Vetiver is very powerful. I once diffused just vetiver and I couldn’t get up the next morning! It was a bit too strong for me, but I use this regularly in my roll-ons. As a matter of fact, in my favorite essential oil recipe for sleep I use 5 drops of vetiver along with 10 drops of clary sage and 10 drops of cedarwood. This combination gives me the happy-medium that I need to get a better night’s sleep.

Ylang Ylang. The floral scent of ylang ylang is very relaxing and can also be worn as a perfume if you like. Great for date night!

Essential Oils Safety Tips

  • Use only a high quality essential oil from a brand that you trust. I get mine from Young Living. And if you like, you can get yours through my store link here: My Young Living Store. If/when you are asked who referred you, please enter my member number: 23339811. Thank you so much!
  • Always dilute your oils with a carrier oil before applying to your skin, as some oils may be irritating to the skin. My favorite is fractionated coconut oil. Almond and olive oil work well too! Young Living also carries a carrier oil called the “V-6 Enhanced Vegetable Oil Complex”.
  • If you are new to oils, start with a small amount to see how your body reacts and work your way up to stronger doses.
  • Do not apply oils around mucous membranes, eyes, ears and other sensitive areas.
  • Do not ingest essential oils.
  • Check your labels. Some oils are photosensitive and can cause skin irritation if you apply them before going out into the sun.
  • Some oils are not recommended for use during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.
