Seed Stitch Purse – Free Crochet Pattern

Free Crochet Pattern
Seed Stitch Purse Pattern

Here is my free crochet pattern for a seed stitch purse. You can use it as is, or line it with some matching or contrasting material to help reduce the stretchiness from the yarn.

The purse is started at the bottom and worked in rounds until you reach a desired height. Generally I do not turn after each round, but for this pattern I turned after each round starting at round six. The reason for this is simply to keep the seam straight, which tends to spiral when using the seed stitch.

I added only one strap to it, but you could just as easy attach two – one on each side of the bag if you wanted to.

Materials

Yarn: TLC Promise Sport (or any worsted weight yarn)
Hook Size: 4.50MM

Gauge: 2.5″ over 9 sts and the across the first 4 rnds.

I love this pattern. Thank you for sharing it.

I too have made mine a little bigger. I also used #18 nylon thread. I am almost finished with it. I was wondering if you lined yours and if you inserted a closer, and if so what kind.

Hi Teresa, Glad you like the bag. I lined it using the method as described on this page: http://crochetncrafts.com/crochet/lining-a-crochet-purse.html

I also put a zipper in it … just regular zipper from Walmart. ๐Ÿ™‚

Can’t wait to try this bag. The only thing I like better than crochet is collecting bags. This puts together the best of both worlds. Thank You for sharing the pattern.

    Hello !

This pattern looks great, can’t wait to make the bag ๐Ÿ˜€
I just have one question, how much yarn do you reckon I need to make the bag ?
I live in rural Australia and need to drive a long way to buy yarn, so I tend to buy bulk amounts when I go to the city or order online (which costs a fortune in postage and handling if I buy online for one project at the time).

    Thanks

    Jo

Jo, I’m sorry, I don’t remember how much I used, but to be on the safe side I would say to buy at least 2 average sized skeins.
