At the beginning of summer I walked into a Walmart looking for some cheap summer yarn to make a skirt when I found this unknown cotton/polyester blend. It was nice and light, which made it perfect for the summer. I figured I’d buy enough to make the skirt I wanted, plus a few hats, and maybe a vest for the cooler days of summer.
It was on sale and so I bought three bags, with each bag containing three balls. That’s nine balls of yarn altogether. Nine balls of yarn for a really low price, I might add. What I really like about this yarn is that it comes out looking nice after washing and drying. It shrinks a little, but not that much. And due to the polyester, it doesn’t fuzz much except a few white fuzzies that tend to make their way to the surface after they come out of the wash. Not favorable, so I might end up washing by hand next time.
Overall I’m happy with it. The only problem is that it’s all in one color. Black was the only color available that day. I figured it was the last of the yarn and so I’d make sure to buy enough for my needs. Little did I know that they were just bringing the stock in. A week later when I went back and now they had all sorts of colors out in that yarn.
How was I to know? I hadn’t been yarn shopping in a while and didn’t know what was out there. Oh well. I still ended up with a good deal.
I’ve already made the skirt, a few hats and headbands.
I also made these chiq shell shorts. They look a little funny at the bottom, but that’s because I ended up adding additional stitches around the leg area in order for them to fit me. Once I wear them, they look fine. Now all I have to do is line them and crochet up a belt for and I’m all set.
After all that, I still have over 5 balls of that yarn left! It’ll definitely be enough to make the vest I have in mind, and then some. But with winter just around the corner I might just save it for next summer. Or I could work it up into bags…
